In this episode of Didaktik:Dialog, I talk with the educational scholar Stefan Meller from the Private University College of Teacher Education Burgenland about the goals, concepts, and practice of General Studies (Sachunterricht) in primary school. We discuss why Sachunterricht is far more than a series of isolated topics and how children learn to understand and actively shape their lifeworld through multiperspectivity and interconnection. The conversation also touches on Klafki's epochal‑typical key problems and on how teachers can manage the balancing act between scientific complexity and age‑appropriate teaching. Stefan shares insights from research and practice and shows how explainer videos can bring complex topics such as civic education into the primary classroom in a child‑friendly way.
